tell me about your products!
Dwight Schultheis | Co-Founder, VP Business Development

Schultheis has earned a reputation in the personal care industry as a grooming guru for his ability to solve ordinary and mundane problems that have frustrated men for centuries. Schultheis's obsession with grooming can be traced back to his childhood in Maplewood, New Jersey. At that time, few had heard of shaving with anything other than soap and a dull razor. "I remember watching my Dad walk out the door to work with little dabs of toilet paper stuck to his face," Schultheis says "and thinking that there had to be a better way."

What did you think of your business partners the first time you met them?
I was both impressed and inspired. I've known Kimberly the longest. I had a tremendous amount of respect for Kimberly's work even before meeting her for the first time — she is one of the true pioneers in the scientifically developed skincare market. We share the same core strategic outlook, which is to outsmart rather than outspend and leverage brains over budgets. Kimberly introduced me to Lisa. The first time Lisa and I met I thought to myself — "this woman can kick some butt and make things happen..." which I think is the most important part of building an entrepreneurial management team.

What's your favorite Amenity product and why?
I love the foot spray. Besides setting the tone for what we're all about as a Company as far as new and innovative products, it's a product that I use constantly. The list of benefits are over the top: it softens calluses, stops foot odor, keeps the dogs dry all day long, makes sneakers smell good, the list goes on and on. I love the cooling effect that is triggered whenever my feet start to sweat - my wife loves my soft heels (that no longer scratch her in bed). And... it's the only no-mess foot spray on the market that can be sprayed upside down.

Brands I am stoked on:
There are so many great companies with all sorts of products that I want, so this is a tough question. The top picks for me are: Design Within Reach, Recycline, Mimobots, Luxury Link, Wikipedia, Kayak, and Copernic for starters.

What is the most beautiful thing on earth?
I marvel at the utter beauty of my wife and of Eli's lemon meringue cakes that are sold at the Upper East Side store. Kind of a toss up.

What's your biggest frustration at this very moment?
I hate the fact that I can't delete songs off my IPOD. Is that even possible?

What do you like to do besides work at Amenity?
We're in the process of building a company. It's an exhilarating but exhausting endeavor, so time away from work right now is minimal. I love kicking it with my wife Lauren and our friends and family. Making connections with new people is what I think I was born to do, but I also love to travel, ski, learn from others, sleep, BBQ big hand-packed burgers, scheme over new business opportunities for Amenity, make people happy, and work with others to innovate and keep the dream alive.

What was your worst shaving experience?
I was 15 at sleep away camp and I shaved on a dare. With soap. Big mistake. But one that lead directly to my founding of this company.

Favorite Grooming Rumor:
A seven blade razor is rumored to be launching in 2008.

Favorite Grooming Fact:
500 million cans of shave foam are sold each year in the United States (and more than 70% of men complain about shaving). All shave creams are not created equal.

What was the last book you read?
The Winner by David Baldacci. It's a great book to take on vacation.

Do you shave every day?
Heck no!

Why do people buy Harley motorcycles?
To be bad.

When guys ask you about Amenity products, what do you say?
I speak to them honestly. Amenity makes products that offer real benefits and products like ours can be explained clearly with no insult to the male intelligence. As a company we are always working creatively to exceed customer expectations. Even though we offer the best customer service, that's not enough. We want to create a unique experience for our customers and we love the opportunities to add a little humor, poke some fun at ourselves and to go the extra mile. You can count on Amenity to grow with you year after year and keep launching great products.

Best Business Tip(s):
The key to succeeding is failing quickly and recouping quickly.

Entrepreneurial Philosophy:
You have to be in a business that has a future. I feel strongly that men are going to be dealing with grooming issues for some time to come. Our customers will always be concerned about bad smells, sweat, acne, and many other problems that the Amenity Authority plans to address in the future.

What is the strangest job that you've ever held?
Right after college, I worked for the government and issued travel licenses for individuals to travel to Cuba under US economic sanctions.

What are you known for?
Making good on my promises.

Grooming Philosophy:
Keep it simple and clean.

What do women look for in a well-groomed man?
Ask one of my partners.
