Japanese Funk… that Muji!

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Until now, the only way for us American design nerds to get Muji products had been to dig around in MoMa Design Store’s in New York and San Francisco. But today, the Japanese brand is opening a highly anticipated 3,200-square-foot location, its first in the States. It will stock more than 2,000 products, including everything from aluminum pens to streamlined sofas. If you like Design Within Reach and Vessel, you’ll love Muji.

An $875 Piece of Peppermint that Could Save Your Life

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Being a classic motor bike enthusiast myself, when I read about French designer Jerome Coste’s new Ruby line of helmets (keep in mind that this is a man who has survived six head traumas), I figured I had to blog about it. His work draws inspiration from Tokyo’s Shibuya shopping district (for which he named this peppermint looking helmet) as well as from the stars of Easy Rider, I can only suspect.  To finance production on these full-carbon helmets (which are essentially the same kind worn by Formula One drivers) he sold his own bike. I just love everything about this product!

Available currently at Dover Street Market  and Selfridges.

It looks like aMENity has done it again… Foot Spray Rocks!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

It looks like aMENity has done it again!

Two weeks ago I received a special prerelease bottle of the newest Amenity product:  Foot Spray.  I’ve tried other foot sprays in the past and at first, I was a little skeptical of a luxury foot spray, but I figured it was worth a try.

The first few times I used it, what really caught my attention was the smell that for some reason reminded me of the odor of an herbal spa treatment I had a few months ago.  My girlfriend quickly mentioned that my feet smell better, which was a little bit of a shock because I didn’t know they smelled in the first place.  I also noticed a mild tingling, which I like because it
makes you feel as if the stuff is actually doing something.

So for the past two weeks I’ve been spraying it on the soles of my feet and in the insides of my shoes daily.  Although, I can’t speak to the healing of crevices at this point, I can say with absolute certainty that my feet are noticeably softer and the texture is much, much smoother.  Being a soccer player I have grown accustomed to having dry scaly feet, but now my feet
look and feel as if they are healthy and smooth.

I really cannot think of anything bad to say about the product at this point and I am eager to see if the patented ingredient will really heal crevices and smooth out my rough areas as promised.  I will keep you updated.

Battle of the Blades–Part II

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

In one of our past Blog entries, an epic battle between manual and electric razors took place, in which manual razors emerged victorious.  Today a new battle shall take place between the traditional single blade razor and the trendy multi-blade razor.

I used to believe it was an absurd notion that two blades could shave better than one, until I tried my first two blade razor, which was given to me for free at the college bookstore as a promo.  After my first shave with my new blades, I stood in awe for about 10 minutes as I rubbed my smoother than ever, face.  I continued to use the double blade razor until christmas, when I recieved a vibrating Mach 3 turbo as a stocking stuffer.  I nearly returned the razor because there is nothing more absurd than a vibrating razor with a useless third blade(since 2 blades gave me such a close shave already).  It only took me one shave to get hooked on a third blade and I look forward to upgrading to the 5 blade Fusion, in the very near future.

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, this is hardly a battle of the blades, but single blades do have some advantages.  Such as, according to dermatologists, men with curly hair or hair that grows in many directions within a region should use a single blade to help prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn.  The shave may not be quite as close, but for this reason you are less likely to be irritated and suffer from ingrown hairs that can be painful and unsightly.

So you’ve heard the arguments and now for the moment of truth…And the winner is…Well, it’s actually a toss-up, so we came up with two separate awards.

Winner of the closest and smoothest overall shave: the Multi-Blade razor.

Winner of best shave for a person with curly hair: the Single Blade razor.

Hope you have enjoyed our blog and keep checking back for new entries weekly.

Best Shaves!
